The client turned to Computools for expert assistance in implementing the project to solve the world food waste problem. The idea was to reduce food waste through automated, real-time inventory, pricing, and marketing of expiring food.

Food waste is a world environmental and economic problem. Each year, 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted, while food waste cost goes beyond $ 990 billion worldwide. Simple math shows that the average household annually wastes food worth $ 2,000.

E-feller is a reliable solution that allows to track and manage the expiring products throughout the supply chain from the producer to the consumer. It is predicted that potential IoT’s impact on retail until 2025 will grow to $1.2 trillion. E-feller strives to use technology advantage to revolutionize the industry and benefit food producers, retailers, and consumers.

Computools offered a robust web solution and in close collaboration with the client’s representatives developed a minimum viable product (MVP). It was the first step on the long way to solving the global food waste problem. The client partnered with Computools to transform the visionary idea into a working prototype. To meet the tight MVP development deadline and fulfill the client’s requirements, Computools screened the talent pool and assembled a team of experienced software engineers.

Developing the MVP, Computools followed critical steps such as identifying the market problem and target audience, evaluating competitors and conducting in-depth analysis, defining user flow and prioritizing features.

In the process of analysis and research, it was found that the problem of food waste is observed along the entire supply chain, and the target audience of the new solution consists of producers, processors, retailers, and consumers. Having carefully studied competitors and already existing ways to deal with the problem of food waste, Computools has been able to highlight the main advantages of E-feller, which will allow it to stand on the market and take a leading position. The deep SWOT-analysis carried out by Computools’s experts laid the foundation for the risk management of the client, as it determined the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that must be taken into account during the development of a new product.

Computools’s specialists helped the client define use cases and develop user flow following the specific needs of food manufacturers, retailers, and consumers. Based on the experience, Computools helped the client to identify critical options for MVP and the necessary set of functions for the finished product.

The Computools’s team applied the Kanban software development methodology to stay flexible and ensure quick integration of newly occurring requirements into the backlog. This is the most suitable way for projects with a limited cycle time to complete tasks, providing continuous delivery and frequent releases. Team Lead regularly checked the code, accelerating the development process and contributing to the timely launch of MVP.

Computools’s specialists took part in the implementation of the project of world importance, applying their expertise and innovations. The result of the project was a software – a working prototype used to implement and develop the whole system. The company’s specialists have implemented crucial functions that solve the main task of the project: tracking and managing the expiring products on each stage of the supply chain.
